Contrary to my habit, I actually followed my own advice after last week’s post and went on an outing to connect with nature. It inspired me to celebrate spring here, on No Wrong Words, even more. As I’ve been noticing more lately—colors, sounds, tiny things—I thought I’d collect them here, like a gentle springtime mood board for the senses.

Hints of Earth and Bloom
My personal go-to scent of spring is the smell of lilies of the valley. Whenever I buy a bouquet, I always place it by the bed—and oh, that smell!
And when fresh flowers aren’t available, I turn for help to my favorite spring scent from Yves Rocher that smells just like lilies of the valley. A precious discovery that I faithfully come back to every spring.
Freshness in Small Bites
Crawling out of winter hibernation, I start craving life outside my apartment, so there will inevitably come a day when I’ll go for a solo brunch and just savour the feeling. This will probably be the day of my first iced coffee of the year—the most official opening of the spring season for my taste buds.

Under the Infinite Skies
During winter months, the sky is mostly grey where I live. And not in a melodramatic way it sometimes is grey in summer, covered in storm clouds, but in a plain, expressionless way. It looks like a dusty blank canvas, hanging so low above your head.
A Bench for Two
Nothing to do with the senses, but the sight of this crow chilling on a bench, soaking up the sun—unbothered, content, minding its own business—brought a smile to my face. I sat down next to it.
“Aren’t you scared?” my friend asked.
I kept a bit of distance so as not to disturb the bird, but I wasn’t scared. Again, I just wanted to stay in that moment for a little while.

The Colours of Spring
The outside world is not the only one to change its decor to a spring one—the spring aesthetic is a must for my apartment, too. Nothing fancy or extravagant. Just a bouquet of fresh flowers on the dining table. Maybe light a candle that “smells like the first day of spring,” and sip some chilled white wine while watching the sunset through the window.
A Glimpse of Spring Light
And speaking of sunsets, I happened to have a visitor who felt like resting on my mosquito net for a bit as the day was drawing to a close. After months of days turning into night abruptly, as if someone switched the lights off, it is lovely to be able to see the sky glow with gentle shades of blue and pink and orange again.

If my little spring mood board finds you, let it inspire you to pause and take in the sensory beauty of springtime around you—whether you’re on a walk on a beautiful day, heading to the market, or coming home from work as the sun begins to set.
Take a deep breath—what does the air smell like? Can you see any birds chirping? Does your shadow look long and lean or short and squashed?
Let all five of your senses enjoy the spring aesthetic for this brief, fleeting moment.
Life, really, is just a series of moments like these.
